Complaints and concerns
How to raise a concern about conduct in the Society’s activities, or about how the Society itself has acted.
A professional body is only as good as its willingness to hear when something has gone wrong. Concerns are treated seriously and confidentially.
What this covers
- Conduct in the Society's activities — meetings, online forums, events, publications and committee work — that falls short of the member participation code.
- Decisions or conduct of the Society itself, including its committee.
- How the Society has handled your personal information (see also the privacy policy).
How to raise a concern
Concerns about conduct may be raised with the Secretary or the President. Write to inquiries@naturalcapitalaccounting.org, marking your message for their attention, and include:
- what happened, and when;
- who was involved, if you are comfortable saying;
- any relevant correspondence or materials; and
- what outcome you are seeking.
How concerns are handled
Concerns are handled by the committee fairly, confidentially and in accordance with the association's rules. Committee members with a conflict of interest in the matter step back from considering it.
Serious or repeated breaches of the member participation code may lead to action under the rules, including suspension or termination of membership.
If you are not satisfied
The rules provide a process for resolving disputes between members, and between members and the Society. For concerns specifically about personal information, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au, or with the relevant data protection authority in your jurisdiction.
Urgent safety concerns
If someone is at immediate risk of harm, contact your local emergency services first. Write to us afterwards so we can act on our side.
